| If you reuse something, you prolong the need for virgin resources and excess energy to be drawn upon. If you reuse something and then recycle it, you have taken a further positive step towards environmental balance. | ||||||||||||||
| Greeting Cards Greeting cards are too pretty to only use once. Share their sentiment and artwork again. Gift Tags Cut up the picture side or the printed sentiment of greeting cards to make personalized gift tags. Punch a hole in the card with a paper-punch and attach the card to the gift with a ribbon. Postcards Cut the picture side of the card free from the back. Draw a line down the blank side leaving enough room for message on one side, and address and a stamp on the other. Resend as a postcard. Scrapbook Additions Greeting cards make a wonderful resource for graphics and text to add to your scrapbooks. Newspapers Most news isn’t fit to read, but that doesn’t mean you should do without the newspaper. Because of its absorbent qualities, it’s a whiz around the house. Deodorize Food Containers A crumpled piece of newspaper will absorb sour smells from food containers. Just place the paper inside and let sit overnight. Dry Wet Shoes Crumple newspaper and stuff it in wet shoes overnight. The paper will draw out the moisture. This works great for smelly shoes too. Emergency Cat Litter If you’re in a pinch for litter, tear strips of newspaper to fill the cat’s dirt box. Newspaper is absorbent and biodegradable. Gift Wrap Newsprint has interesting designs. Choose sections of the newspaper to wrap gifts; use the Sunday color comics for a birthday, or the travel page for a bon voyage. Refrigerator Freshener Line the bottom of vegetable drawers with newspaper to keep them dry and free of odors. Ripen Fruit Individually wrap immature fruits in newspaper to hasten their ripening. Window Cleaner Use newspaper together with vinegar and water to clean mirrors and windows; its sterile quality leaves glass streak free. Weed Mulch Four layers of newspaper laid over a problem weed area will rob the weeds of sun and air and destroy these intruders. Pantyhose Out of the lingerie drawer, old pantyhose can be given a new life elsewhere. Closet Freshener Put mothballs into a leg and tie it to the rail in your closet. Fill a leg with lavender and use to scent your closet Find & Seek If you drop something small on the floor and can't find it, cover the nozzle on the vacuum cleaner with pantyhose. Polishing Rag Pantyhose make excellent, soft polishing cloths. Rubbing polished shoes with nylon pantyhose gives them an extra gleaming shine. Soap Holder Cut a leg off and use to keep all those odd bits of soap. Tie the end and keep it beside the sink for hand washing. |
