| If every family reused just two feet of holiday ribbon, the miles of ribbon saved could reach around the entire planet. Here are some alternative ideas to wrap and top your gifts. Bows Beads and buttons Candy canes Hair ornaments Holiday ornaments Silk flowers Small picture frames Small toys Spices, such as bundled cinnamon sticks Ribbon Sewing notions such as lace, rickrack, seam tape, and yarn Scarves Scrap fabric Shoelaces Old neckties Twine Use last year's holiday cards cut up for gift tags. Potato Chip Bags work great for shining up a present. You can wash the bags and make: shiny bows shiny ribbon Shiny Bows Cut a potato chip bag along the seams so that it opens up and lays flat Wash with dish soap and dry Cut the bag into strips approximately one-half inch wide Twist the strip into a figure "8" keeping the shiny side facing out (you can cut each strip to the length you like best) Clip in the middle with a paper clip Make another figure 8 and place it so the two 8s are in a + position Staple the center being sure to catch all the ends Make more figure 8s, each one slightly smaller than the last, and position them to fill in the “bow” Staple all together Shiny Ribbons Cut a potato chip bag along the seams so that it opens up and lays flat. Wash with dish soap and dry Cut numerous strips to whatever width you would like the ribbon to be Using pieces of tape, tape the strips together To store, tape one end to a toilet paper tube and wrap the ribbon around it |
