Judy Graf is an environmentalist by default. Conscious of her limited income and inspired by her love of life, she says she does things to save money rather than doing them for the environment. Judy doesn’t think she is an environmentalist, but look at the connection in her own words:

“Since 1981 I've recycled everything possible and this has allowed me to not have garbage service. I haven’t done this to save the environment but to help with my budget.”

“Washington County Community Actions low income weatherization program approved me for R38 insulation and all new Thermo Pane windows, but I am installing Mill Guard Fiberglass windows in my home instead, and they are better for the environment than Thermo Pane. To help with the out-of-pocket cost difference I will incur, I contacted Home Energy Savings Conservation Services, a site that offers incentives to homeowners wanting to up-grade their residence with better environmental products.”

“I buy most of my clothes, furniture, etc. at thrift stores and garage sales; not to recycle, but because of my income.”

“I was thinking of a new car, but my 1991 Toyota Camry runs perfect, purrs like a kitten, and I get 37 mpg on a road trip. I’ve decided to keep it for a few more years and get a new radio and hub caps (hoping I can find them at a thrift store or on sale) instead.”

“I don't buy birthday gifts for my 12 grandchildren because I think they have too much materialistic stuff, so I buy them savings bonds instead.”

“I bike for recreation, not to save energy, but I ride 50 to 100 bike-miles in a week, and frequently bike to places most folks visit by car.”

“I guess you could say that I am being environmentally wise, but I'm not out to support a cause. My only real purpose is to live within my means, and at the same time extend the love and joy and happiness I see in all matters; I’m only trying to be an extension of love as much as possible.”

Keep up the good work Judy; you are saving more than a few bucks with the way you choose to live.
