| Carthage, Tennessee Al Gore, inspired by a college professor, has been watching the environment since his school days. Back then he made a connection to historical data, statistics, and the rhythms of nature. In recent years, the rapid acceleration of environmental warning signs that point to global warming, led him on a crusade to bring the "planetary emergency" he foresaw to light. After the curve of his political life he reconnected to his environmental roots and began a worldwide lecture tour and slide presentation that eventually became the movie An Inconvenient Truth. The movie’s content is a persuasive argument that rapid climate change is connected to human activity, and that we need to make changes in the way we live to curtail acceleration of the problem. In the process he posed the debate that has led us to a tipping point of global awareness on the subject. Whether or not climate change is caused by human activity, now is a good time to try and make changes that benefit the environment and enhance the quality of life for us and future generations; after all, it can’t hurt. Thank you Mr. Gore for making green a color that looks good on everyone. |
